Description: Smilax china L. (China Root) is a perennial climbing deciduous shrub which is widely distributed in Southern China and Southeast Asian countries incliding India.
Traditional Uses: The rhizomes are bitter, acrid, thermogenic, anodyne, anti-inflammatory, digestive, laxative, depurative, diuretic, febrifuge and tonic. It is used in dyspepsia, flatulence, colic, constipation and helminthiasis and useful in skin diseases, leprosy and psoriasis. It is also used for fever, epilepsy, insanity and neuralgia, syphilis, strangury, seminal weakness and general debility. Detoxifies organs, cleanses blood, aids absorption and kills bacteria. It also stimulates digestion, increases urination, protects liver and promotes perspiration. As per Ayurveda literature, the plant is useful against skin disease, pitta, insanity, diarrhea, colic, vata, syphallis, gonorrhea, fever, arthritis, leucorrhoea, impotency and general weakness.
Therapeutic Uses: அதிகழிச்சல் (Diarrhoea), சூலை (Pain), கரப்பான் (Eczema), கிராணி (Chronic Diarrhoea), மாந்தம் (Indigestion), நீரிழிவு (Diabetes), நீர்வேட்கை, பிளவை (Carbuncle), புண் (Ulcer), உப்பிசம் (Abdominal distension), வயிற்றிரைசல் (Burning sensation in the stomach), வெட்டை (Venereal disease).
Dosage: At morning empty stomach, take 1 teaspoon (5g) powder mix with honey or warm water & drink (or) as directed by physician.
