Nelumbo nucifera (Lotus) has been used as an important ingredient for traditional medicines since ancient times. It is an aquatic flowering plant belonging to the family nelumbonaceae. This perennial plant is well-known as various common names, e.g., sacred lotus, Indian lotus, Water lily and Chinese water lily.
Traditional Uses: The whole plant is used as an herbal medicine to cure diarrhea, insomnia, fever, body heat imbalance and gastritis. In Korea, India and China, it is also used as a hemostatic. Dry leaves and perianth of N. nucifera are consumed as health promoting teas. The flowers and pedicels are used as both cardiac and hepatic tonics. The seeds are prepared to treat cutaneous diseases.
Therapeutic Uses: காய்ச்சல் (Fever), கண் எரிச்சல் (Eye irritation), நீர்வேட்கை.
Dosage: After morning & night food, take 1 teaspoon (5g) powder mix with honey or boiled with water and palm jaggery & drink (or) as directed by physician.
